23rd National Trekking Day
- 9:30
- 14:30
For the National Urban Trekking Day, “Saint Francis 1226–2026: Following the Traces of the Essential”, Viandanti Diversi offers a walking tour exploring the relationship between the city and water, showing how Thiene has transformed this essential resource into infrastructure, weaving together industriousness, use, power and beauty.
The tour begins by admiring the Bacchus and Temperance Fountain in front of the Town Hall, followed by the Ox Fountain, the Buzzi Fountain and the Piazza Chilesotti Fountain, whose construction is linked to the history of the municipal water supply system.
The route then continues to the city’s wells and public drinking fountains: the one in Piazza Martiri della Libertà, the fountains in Via Trieste, the wayside shrine with fountain in Via San Gaetano, and the 19th-century fountain at Villa Fabris.
The highlights of the trekking experience are the municipal icehouse, an underground space once used for refrigeration, and the Castle of Thiene, where water becomes both “technology” and “landscape”. Here, the Thiene watercourse feeds the gardens and the representative areas of the residence, alongside the evocative Vera da Pozzo (historic stone wellhead) and the ancient icehouse, recalling the former historic pond, once a place of wonder and refreshment.
